Nigeria Vs Libya Football Match

Nigeria‘s interim head coach, Augustine Eguavoen, is hopeful of securing maximum points in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Libya. The first encounter is scheduled for Friday, October 11, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, with a kick-off time of 6 PM CAT (SA, GMT+2).

The journey to the 2025 AFCON has seen Nigeria face challenges, particularly in securing a permanent managerial replacement after Jose Peseiro‘s departure. Finidi George initially took charge in April but resigned in June after mixed results, leaving Eguavoen to take the role temporarily in August. Eguavoen’s tenure began with a positive 3-0 triumph over the Cheetahs but was followed by a goalless draw against Rwanda. Despite the challenges, Nigeria remains at the top of Group D.

The Mediterranean Knights, led by coach Nasser Al-Hadhiri, face their own hurdles as they prepare for the clash in Uyo. Libya began their AFCON qualifying campaign with a 1-1 draw against the Wasps and a 2-1 loss to Benin. They currently trail Nigeria by three points in the group standings.

“That they (Libya) are down right now doesn’t mean they cannot rise,” stated Eguavoen. “They will come to fight. Our best and surest route to the finals will be to pick up the six points in the matches with Libya.”

Al-Hadhiri commented on his team’s preparedness, acknowledging the challenge ahead, “We realise that winning against Nigeria is difficult, but we seek to return with a draw that will be positive for us.”

Among the players to watch, Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman stands out with impressive performances for both club and country this season. Meanwhile, Libya will be relying on the experience of Faisal Al Badri, who remains pivotal in their lineup.

The head-to-head record heavily favors Nigeria, with the Super Eagles winning all previous three encounters against Libya. As they prepare to extend this record, Nigeria is expected to field a strong squad, including key players such as Victor Osimhen and Victor Boniface.
