Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Orders Go Live Amid High Demand

REDMOND, Wash. — Nintendo has officially begun sending out invites for pre-orders of its highly anticipated Switch 2 console, set to launch on June 5, 2025. The process began on May 8 and will continue in waves, targeting selected users who meet specific criteria.
Pre-orders first opened in North America on April 24 and sold out quickly across major retailers. Now, the company is giving priority to active Nintendo Switch Online members. Those selected for an invite will have a 72-hour window to complete their purchase from Nintendo’s My Nintendo Store.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will be available for $449 or $499 when bundled with the new title Mario Kart World. High demand has created challenges, with many retailers reporting sellouts within minutes of the initial pre-order window.
Retailers such as Walmart, Target, and Best Buy also provided limited stock on launch day, and curious gamers are advised to keep an eye on these sites for restocks leading up to release. Reports indicate that several U.K. retailers, including Currys and Smyths Toys, also had initial stock drops earlier this month, but availability is dwindling.
Those interested in securing a Switch 2 are encouraged to register their interest with Nintendo and stay alert for further updates. Nintendo has stated that they expect to sell 15 million units in the fiscal year ending March 2026, emphasizing strong consumer interest.
Rory Mellon, a Senior Entertainment Editor at Tom's Guide, reflected on the recent frenzy, stating, “The demand is overwhelming, and we expect new stock to be challenging to secure for many.”
As anticipation builds for the official launch, Nintendo encourages fans to act quickly to secure their units. Those who missed the initial pre-order windows may still have additional chances, as inventory is likely to be replenished periodically in the coming weeks.
The Switch 2 is predicted to be one of the leading tech items of 2025, promising a robust gaming experience with enhanced graphics and exciting new features.
