Norrie, Sonego advance in ATP 250 Metz tournament
METZ, France — Cameron Norrie and Lorenzo Sonego both advanced in the ATP 250 tournament on Thursday, solidifying their spots in the next round. Norrie, the seventh seed, faced a tough challenger in Kyrian Jacquet, ultimately winning 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-4 to reach the semi-finals.
Norrie, a finalist in Metz last year, had to dig deep, winning the last 11 points of the match. “He surprised me a lot,” Norrie remarked about Jacquet. “He was mixing it up really well. A lot of slicing, then really aggressive at moments.” The match lasted two hours and 25 minutes, showcasing Norrie’s resilience in a competitive encounter.
Meanwhile, Sonego, who has fond memories of Metz after winning the title in 2022, also moved forward with a victory over his Italian compatriot, winning 2-6, 6-3, 7-5. This win marks Sonego’s fourth quarter-final this year. “It was a hard-fought battle, but I’m happy to be playing well again,” Sonego said.
With both players advancing, they continue to chase titles in the competitive ATP racing circuit. Norrie seeks his sixth tour-level title and first since 2023, while Sonego aims to improve his standings as the competition heats up.
