Oklahoma State Dismisses Defensive Coordinator Todd Grantham Following Baylor Loss
STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State University officials announced on Sunday that they have fired defensive coordinator Todd Grantham. This decision comes just a day after the Cowboys suffered a disappointing 45-27 loss to Baylor at Boone Pickens Stadium.
The university expressed that Grantham, who was in his first season with the program, will be replaced by Clint Bowen. Bowen had previously been working in a quality control role within the OSU coaching staff.
The Cowboys’ loss against Baylor marked a significant turning point for the program, which has faced intense scrutiny following their inconsistent performances this season. “Oklahoma State Football is making a change in its coaching staff,” university officials stated in a news release.
Bowen, a former player at the University of Kansas, has extensive experience in college football, including a long tenure as a defensive coordinator throughout multiple FBS programs. His connection to Oklahoma State is personal as his son, Banks Bowen, is a freshman quarterback for the Cowboys.
This move follows the announcement made earlier in the week that long-time head coach Mike Gundy had also been let go. He was replaced by Doug Meacham, who has taken on the role of interim head coach. Meacham has been part of the Cowboys’ staff as an offensive coordinator since late 2024.
Chad Weiberg, the OSU Athletic Director, acknowledged the contributions of Gundy, stating, “Cowboy Football reached an unprecedented level of success and national prominence under Coach Gundy’s leadership. I believe I speak for OSU fans everywhere when I say that we are grateful for all he did to raise the standard of Oklahoma State football.”
The upcoming change comes as the Cowboys are poised to start their conference play and hope to regain momentum. With Bowen at the helm of the defense, the university aims to restore competitiveness on the field as they prepare for their next matchup.
As the program transitions with new leadership, hopes remain high for OSU fans who look forward to seeing how Bowen’s influence will affect the Cowboys’ performance moving forward.
