Oregon Ducks Basketball Team In Action

EUGENE, Ore. — The Oregon Ducks, once a top 10 contender this season, are in freefall as they tumble towards the bubble. After suffering five consecutive losses, including recent defeats against Michigan and Michigan State, the Ducks’ record stands at 16-8 overall and 5-8 in the Big Ten. They now find themselves tied for 11th place in the conference.

Despite the recent skids, the Ducks have ascended two spots to No. 35 in the NCAA’s NET rankings this week, a position that may not hold if the team does not turn around its fortunes. Five of Oregon’s remaining seven games are classified as Quadrant 2 matchups, with the possibility of their upcoming game against USC dropping to Quadrant 3.

This week presents must-win situations for Oregon, with games against Northwestern and Rutgers. Both teams are positioned near the bottom of the Big Ten standings; a loss against either could jeopardize Oregon’s hopes of making the conference tournament.

With less than five weeks until Selection Sunday, analysts project that Oregon could potentially secure a No. 7 seed. Prior to the recent losses, the Ducks were also projected to be a No. 7 seed.

Oregon’s resume as of February 10 shows a record of 7-6 in Quadrant 1 and 2-2 in Quadrant 2 matchups, along with a perfect 3-0 record in Quadrant 3. They have maintained a strong strength of schedule ranked 7th overall. However, there are emerging concerns as five games lie ahead against critical opponents.

The Ducks’ notable victories include wins against Alabama (NET 6), Texas A&M (NET 13), and Maryland (NET 16), which bolster their standing. Conversely, a disheartening loss against Minnesota, ranked NET 99, may haunt them moving forward.

Looking ahead, a matchup against Wisconsin (NET 15) on February 22 is viewed as a pivotal opportunity for signature victories for Oregon, which would greatly assist their tournament aspirations.

Home matchups against Northwestern, Rutgers, USC, and Indiana, along with a road game at Iowa, will serve as critical indicators for the Ducks’ post-season eligibility. Any losses in these encounters could threaten their chances of participating in the Big Ten Conference Tournament.
