Oregon State Fires Coach Trent Bray After 0-7 Start

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State University fired head football coach Trent Bray on Sunday following a disappointing 0-7 start to the 2025 season, according to multiple reports. The decision comes after the Beavers suffered a 39-14 loss to Wake Forest at Reser Stadium on Saturday.
The Beavers are experiencing their worst start since 1991 and are currently the only FBS team with seven losses. Bray, 43, struggled in his second season after being promoted from defensive coordinator, compiling a record of 5-14 overall.
Bray expressed his frustration after the defeat to Wake Forest, stating, “I’m frustrated. I’m disappointed. I look at myself, and I’ve got to fix it. It’s unacceptable to me where we’re at.” He acknowledged the need to reassess his approach to energize the team amid the ongoing struggles.
In the previous season, the Beavers had a promising start, going 4-1 in the first half of 2024 before finishing 5-7, which led to missing out on a bowl game. Bray took charge when former head coach Jonathan Smith departed for Michigan State ahead of the 2024 season.
Prior to his role as head coach, Bray served as the Beavers’ defensive coordinator and also had stints as linebackers coach at Oregon State from 2012 to 2014. He played linebacker for the Beavers from 2002 to 2005.
Despite the dismal season start, the Beavers will host Lafayette, an FCS team, next Saturday as they look to turn their fortunes around.
