OTD: Bangladesh U19 Cricket Team Makes History by Winning ICC World Cup
In a historic moment for Bangladesh cricket, the country’s U19 team achieved a remarkable victory by winning the ICC World Cup, making it their first-ever triumph in an ICC event at any level. The final took place at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom, South Africa, where the Junior Tigers faced off against India, the four-time champions and seven-time finalists.
After opting to bat first, India struggled against the formidable Tigers’ bowling attack. Avishek Das led the way with three wickets, while Shoriful Islam and Tanzim Hasan Sakib provided much-needed support, picking up two scalps each. Only Yashasvi Jaiswal managed to make an impact for India, scoring 88 runs including 8 fours and a six.
Rain briefly interrupted play, resulting in a revised target of 170 in 46 overs for Bangladesh. Undeterred, the Tigers displayed great determination and skill, successfully chasing down the target with 23 balls to spare. Akbar Ali, the captain, played a truly remarkable innings, leading his team to victory with a composed knock of 43 not out.
