OWEGO, N.Y. (WBNG) — Owego Free Academy senior Maggie Hamed signed her National Letter of Intent to play Division II volleyball at Pace University on Monday afternoon. Hamed has had a standout career with the River Hawks, racking up 1,064 kills, 143 aces, and 457 digs during her time on the varsity team.
Throughout her high school career, Hamed helped the River Hawks secure five division titles, win two STAC championships, and earn four Section IV titles in Class A volleyball. Her individual achievements include being named to the All-Conference team for four consecutive seasons, making the NYS Class A Tournament team last year, and receiving fourth-team All-State honors in 2023. Additionally, she was awarded the Greater Binghamton Player of the Year that same season.
“I committed to Pace for the academics; they have a huge academic program, and their athletic team was my second reason why,” Hamed told 12 News. “I just fell in love with the girls, and my coach Amanda Wilkins is amazing. I just feel like I can grow so much as a person and an athlete there.”
Hamed plans to study psychology and sociology at Pace, aiming to become a clinical psychologist specializing in children’s hospitals. Her commitment marks an exciting next step in her athletic and academic journey. Congratulations to Maggie Hamed on this achievement!
