Packers Place AJ Dillon on Injured Reserve for 2024 Season
The Green Bay Packers have officially placed running back AJ Dillon on injured reserve, ruling him out for the entire 2024 season. This decision alters the team’s backfield structure significantly, as Dillon was one of the primary running backs for the Packers since being drafted in 2020.
Known affectionately as ‘Quadzilla’ by fans, Dillon was signed to a one-year, $1.3 million contract this offseason. His absence will undoubtedly impact the Packers’ running game, as he contributed 2,428 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns over his four seasons with the team.
In 2023, Dillon faced a challenging season, recording a career-low average of 3.4 yards per carry, with a total of 613 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The team’s decision to not designate him for return on the injured reserve suggests their commitment to moving forward without him this year.
Additionally, the Packers have made significant changes to their roster, selecting a new running back from USC in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. They also secured a top free-agent running back on a four-year, $48 million deal, further solidifying their offensive strategy without Dillon.
Although there is a possibility for Dillon’s return in 2025, he will be focusing on his recovery throughout the 2024 season and will not have the chance to participate in any games.
