Penn State Rallies with Impressive Drive Against No. 1 Ohio State
COLUMBUS, OH – Penn State‘s struggling football offense made a statement against Ohio State‘s top-ranked defense on Saturday. The Nittany Lions, down 10-0 in the second quarter, crafted a remarkable 15-play, 75-yard drive that took nearly eight minutes off the clock, bringing the score to within three points.
The pivotal drive featured a series of clutch plays by quarterback Grunkemeyer, who converted two critical third-and-long situations. Running back Singleton provided key receptions of 13 and 16 yards before finishing off the drive with a three-yard touchdown run on third and goal.
Singleton, who had an impressive 2024 season with over 1,000 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns, had been underperforming this year with only 274 yards and six touchdowns to date. Interim coach Smith and offensive coordinator Beaty emphasized the importance of utilizing Singleton’s speed in their game plan to maximize his impact throughout the game.
This drive marked a defining moment for Grunkemeyer, showcasing composure beyond his two starts. His performance raised hopes for a promising end to the 2025 season for Penn State and set the stage for his potential as a leader heading into 2026.
