Penta’s WWE Debut Sparks Comparisons to Wrestling Legends
STAMFORD, Conn. — Penta, the former AEW star known as Penta El Zero Miedo, made a splash in his WWE debut on Jan. 13, 2025, defeating Chad Gable on WWE Raw. The debut has drawn widespread praise, with comparisons to wrestling legends like Rey Mysterio and La Parka.
WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray, speaking on “Busted Open Radio,” highlighted Penta’s unique appeal. “Penta reminds me of La Parka, who was a big deal in Mexico and WCW,” Bully said. “La Parka’s gimmick got over in the States, and Penta has that same energy. He’s a combination of La Parka and Rey Mysterio.”
Bully added that Penta’s larger stature and personality make him a standout. “Can Penta do the Rey stuff? Yes, he can. He’s a bigger dude, but he’s also as entertaining as La Parka was. This whole thing is going to get over.”
Jim Ross, the legendary wrestling commentator, also weighed in on Penta’s debut. “I was a little surprised at the hype,” Ross said. “We had him at AEW for a good while. He was phenomenal in the ring, but WWE and Triple H clearly see something special in him. He could be in main events within the next year.”
Ross noted the challenges of booking Penta in a roster filled with talented luchadores. “WWE has a good stock of luchadores. They have to be careful with how they book him to make him stand out,” he said.
Penta’s debut was not without controversy, as rumors circulated that his match and promo ran long, leading to some segments being cut from the show. However, the overall reception has been overwhelmingly positive, with fans and industry veterans alike praising his performance.
Penta, who left AEW in December 2024 after his contract expired, brings an impressive resume to WWE. During his time in AEW, he held the AEW World Tag Team Championship, the AEW World Trios Championship, and the ROH World Tag Team Championship.
As WWE continues to build its roster under Triple H’s leadership, Penta’s debut marks a significant addition. With comparisons to legends and high expectations, the wrestling world will be watching closely to see how his career unfolds in WWE.
