Pete Alonso New York Mets

Philadelphia, PA — The Philadelphia Phillies are considering making a move for New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso as they look to strengthen their lineup during the offseason. Bryce Harper has expressed his willingness to shift to the outfield if the Phillies secure a solid first baseman.

Alonso has established himself as one of the top hitters in Major League Baseball, continuing his impressive performance this season. In seven years, he has hit 243 home runs over 3,394 at-bats and is having another standout year with 17 home runs and 63 RBIs, leading the National League.

Dylan Sanders, a baseball analyst, believes the Phillies should pursue Alonso, listing him as one of four free agents worth their attention this offseason. “Alonso ended up going back to the Mets this past offseason, but will likely be headed back to free agency in search of a long-term contract with an opt-out available after this year,” Sanders noted.

Alonso’s current slash line stands at .302/.399/.592, and he also leads the NL with 21 doubles this season. His willingness to move to the outfield could be essential for the Phillies’ plan, especially if Harper continues to be open to playing in that position.

While Alonso will demand a significant salary due to his opt-out clause in 2026, his performance merits the investment. The combination of his powerful batting and potential fit with Harper suggests that this possible deal might be advantageous for both parties.
