Plessinger Triumphs in Mud-Filled Foxborough Supercross Showdown

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Aaron Plessinger claimed victory in a challenging mud race at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, marking him as the seventh winner of the 2025 Monster Energy Supercross season. The event showcased heavy rains, making it the first time since 1997 that seven different riders have won in a single season.
“When I got up on the start, I had [Cooper Webb] to the right of me and [Justin Cooper] in front of me,” Plessinger said. “When they slowed down to go through the ruts I just stood up on the pegs and leaned back and pinned it.” The impressive performance earned Plessinger his second career victory, following his win in San Diego last year.
Shane McElrath secured second place, marking his first career podium finish. “Tonight was all about opportunity,” McElrath stated. “I was up on the line, and I was praying, like ‘God just give me traction. That’s all I want on the gate’.”
Cooper Webb, who encountered multiple crashes throughout the race, managed to finish third after overtaking several competitors in a chaotic final lap. “In these kinds of conditions, you don’t know what can happen,” Webb noted. “It’s so stressful when you’re leading the championship.”
Ken Roczen finished fourth, while Justin Barcia rounded out the top five. Roczen lodged a protest against Webb for allegedly jumping a red cross flag, but Webb defended his actions, stating he was committed to the jump when it occurred.
Chase Sexton, who had been a strong competitor, fell out of the top five and finished three positions behind Webb, trailing him by 15 points in the championship standings with five rounds left.
In the 250 East division, Chance Hymas took home the win, becoming the sixth winner in that class this season. “This means so much to me,” Hymas said. “We’ve been working our butts off to get here.” He reclaimed the lead after holeshot winner Dayton Briggs crashed out. Hymas maintained a steady pace, prioritizing bike control over speed.
Cullin Park finished in second place, about 32 seconds behind Hymas. “I was getting a little too excited there with two laps to go,” Park said, calling it a thrilling race. Gage Linville completed the podium in third, while Justin Rodbell and Daxton Bennick rounded out the top five.
Notably absent from the top of the standings were points leader Tom Vialle and his challengers Seth Hammaker and RJ Hampshire, who faced multiple accidents that hindered their performances. Vialle’s struggles dropped him to 22nd overall, while Hammaker finished ninth, tying him for a share of the points lead.
Heavy rain impacted the event schedule, leading to the cancellation of free practice and the reduction of qualification sessions. Justin Barcia was noted as the fastest qualifier, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the mud conditions.
The weekend’s events emphasized the resilience of riders, with many taking on treacherous conditions. As Plessinger celebrated his win, the rest of the field prepared for the next challenge in the season.
