FC Porto Adjusts Lineup Ahead of V. Guimarães Clash
PORTO, Portugal — FC Porto is set to make changes to its starting lineup ahead of tonight’s match against V. Guimarães, with at least two starters from the last match expected to lose their positions.
Coach Francesco Farioli has opted to rest certain players, including midfielder Froholdt and forward Luuk de Jong, who is still recovering from a left knee injury. Despite efforts from the medical team led by Nélson Puga, De Jong is not ready to play.
On a positive note, Deniz Gul returned to training yesterday and is included in the squad, alongside Karamoh and Tomás Pérez, who is hoping for his season debut. The uncertainty lies primarily in the goalkeeper position, where Cláudio Ramos and João Costa are vying for the spot vacated by De Jong. Ramos has played two matches in the Taça de Portugal, while Costa has three appearances with the B team.
Farioli acknowledged that the final decision on the starting eleven involves careful evaluation due to recent injury concerns among players. “We need to assess the entire team. We had some players with issues, particularly with their knees,” Farioli said. “The medical team is working hard to recover players, and we want to ensure their health while also aiming for victory.”
In defense, players like Prpic and Zaidu will be competing for a starting role, while midfielder Stephen Eustáquio could replace Froholdt. Gabri Veiga, who did not start against Estoril, may also reclaim his spot in the lineup.
As for the wings, the coach must decide whether to keep William Gomes or Borja Sainz as a starter. If Gul is fit enough, he might maintain his place in the lineup, although there is a possibility that Rodrigo Mora could play in a different role as a ‘false 9.’
Farioli indicated that the team would finalize its lineup closer to the match, as they aim to effectively adapt to the latest situation and maintain their competitive edge. “Tonight will be another challenging test for us, but our squad is prepared to seize the opportunity to move forward in the tournament,” he added.
