Portugal Secures Last Gasp Victory Against Czech Republic In Euro 2024 Opener

In a thrilling Euro 2024 Group F opener, young talent Francisco Conceicao proved to be the hero as he secured a last-gasp 2-1 victory for Portugal against the Czech Republic. The 21-year-old winger from Porto came off the bench and capitalized on a defensive error by the Czechs to seal the comeback win.

The match saw the Czech Republic take the lead against the run of play with Lukas Provod scoring a fine goal from outside the box. Cristiano Ronaldo‘s Portugal struggled to shine but managed to equalize through an own goal by Robin Hranac before Conceicao sealed the dramatic win.

Portugal’s veteran forward Ronaldo had several chances denied by Czech goalkeeper Stanek, including hitting the post and having a goal disallowed for offside. The Portuguese team, under coach Roberto Martinez, persevered to claim the victory despite some shaky moments.

Coach Ivan Hasek’s Czech Republic frustrated Portugal for periods of the game, but ultimately succumbed to Conceicao’s late strike. The win put Portugal level with Turkey at the top of Group F after the latter secured a 3-1 victory against Georgia in a match marred by fan violence.

In the Turkey-Georgia clash, Real Madrid‘s Arda Guler scored a brilliant goal to put Turkey ahead, while Kerem Akturkoglu sealed the win in the final moments. Despite Georgia’s spirited performance, they were unable to overcome the Turkish side in their first-ever major international tournament match.
