NC State Prepares to Face UNCG in Men’s Basketball Showdown
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men’s basketball team will host UNCG Wednesday night at the Lenovo Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. and the game will be shown on the ACC Network. Fans can also tune in on the Wolfpack Sports Network as well.
NC State enters the game fresh off a 94-70 victory against UAB, where they shot 69.2 percent from the field in the second half. The Wolfpack led 28-26 at the final media timeout before closing the half strong, holding a 60-45 lead early in the second half which UAB could not recover from.
Four players reached double figures in scoring during the UAB game, with two leading the team at 18 points each. The Wolfpack’s starting unit has been particularly effective, averaging 71.5 points per game and boasting a shooting percentage of 63.6 percent through two games.
NC State has shown remarkable efficiency particularly on two-point shots, with a season average of 74.5 percent. In a dominating opener against North Carolina Central, they tallied a program record 19 three-pointers. The Pack’s 114 points in that game were the second-most in Lenovo Center history.
As for the upcoming matchup, NC State holds a strong 68-3 record against non-conference opponents in regular-season home games since the 2016-17 season. However, one of those rare losses was to UNCG, who won 81-76 in 2017.
Additionally, an NC State win would mark a six consecutive season start at 3-0. Notable player Terquavion Smith is set to make his 100th straight college game start, while ACC Preseason Player of the Year Terquavion Williams is having a standout season with averages of 16.5 points and 6.0 assists.
NC State’s offensive performance has been stellar, as they’ve scored 208 total points in their first two games, marking their best start since the 1990-91 season. The previous record for assists in the first two games, 47, remains within reach.
Wednesday’s game will be the 13th meeting between NC State and UNCG, with the Pack leading the series 11-1. Despite their dominance, the last four matchups have been closely contested. The last time they faced off in 2019, NC State won with a dramatic midcourt shot as time expired.
