Prime Minister Modi Highlights India’s Ambitious Goals and Opportunities in US Address
During his visit to the United States, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a significant gathering of Indian-Americans, emphasizing India’s status as a “land of opportunities” and outlining his ambitious goals for his third term in office. Speaking at the Nassau Veterans Coliseum on Long Island, New York, Modi presented a “three-fold sense of responsibility” that he seeks to pursue in his current administration.
Highlighting the historic mandate received by his government, Modi stated, “For the first time in 60 years, the people of India have given a mandate which has great significance. During my third term, I have very ambitious goals to achieve.” Modi further noted India’s self-driven approach to creating opportunities, revealing that approximately 250 million people were lifted out of poverty within the past decade.
The Prime Minister elaborated on the transformative changes in India’s economy, which he attributed to empowering the impoverished, thus bolstering the nation’s middle class. He reaffirmed his commitment to good governance and prosperity, acknowledging that his entry into politics was a matter of destiny rather than personal ambition.
The announcement of new Indian consulates in Boston and Los Angeles was met with enthusiasm from the Indian-American community, signifying a strengthening of India’s presence and support in the United States. Boston, noted for its educational and pharmaceutical significance, and Los Angeles, with upcoming international events like the Olympics, were chosen as strategic locations.
Modi’s address also touched upon India’s proactive role on the international stage, especially during global crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. He stressed India’s commitment to being a “first responder” and its objectives in fostering global peace and development without seeking dominance. He remarked on India’s low contribution to carbon emissions despite its large population, highlighting the country’s commitment to sustainable development.
In terms of advancements, the Prime Minister took pride in India’s digital progress and innovation, expressing a desire for increased domestic production of mobile technology. Modi’s speech was punctuated with a cultural program showcasing India’s rich heritage, featuring performances by notable artists such as Chandrika Tandon and Aishwarya Majumdar.
While concluding his visit, Modi reflected on his warm interactions with U.S. officials, including President Joe Biden, underscoring the mutual respect between the two nations. The event was attended by over 13,000 Indian-Americans, manifesting the vibrant cultural and diplomatic ties between India and the United States.
