Prince Harry Wellchild Awards 2024

The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, recently opened up about aspects of his family life, particularly his two children, during a public appearance at the WellChild Awards in London on September 30. According to Sophie Vokes-Dudgeon, chief content officer at an undisclosed outlet, Harry, aged 40, spoke tenderly about his children, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3, mentioning them with enthusiasm and joy.

“From the moment he arrived in the reception room, he had an infectious energy about him, and there were no airs and graces at all as he chatted animatedly about his own children ahead of the event,” Vokes-Dudgeon reported. Harry shared a charming anecdote, noting how Archie and Lilibet have inherited their mother, Meghan Markle’s, thick hair, humorously remarking that it won’t be long until Lilibet’s hair is long enough for her to sit on.

The Duke also reminisced about his children’s genetic traits in an earlier interview on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” expressing surprise that his Spencer family’s “ginger gene” was passed on despite his wife Meghan’s genes. Notably, red hair runs in the Spencer family, shared by Harry and all three of Princess Diana‘s siblings.

While in the U.K. for the WellChild Awards, Prince Harry addressed the responsibilities his wife Meghan was managing back home in California. With their busy household, Meghan had her hands full taking care of their children and pets, including three dogs and several chickens, according to Vokes-Dudgeon.

The WellChild Awards, where Harry has been patron since 2007, celebrate the courage and remarkable achievements of seriously ill children alongside the commitment of caregivers and medical professionals. This year’s event saw Harry present the award for Most Inspirational Child in the 4-6 age category. In his address, Harry emphasized the inspiring nature of the children and their caregivers, stating, “These incredible young people, along with the dedicated caregivers, nurses and professionals who tirelessly support them, inspire us all. It is a true privilege to recognize such extraordinary individuals.”

Emphasizing his personal connection to the event, Prince Harry mentioned how becoming a father himself has made his interactions with the WellChild recipients even more profound. As a parent, he expressed admiration for the dedication and round-the-clock care that many families provide.

In addition to his commitments to WellChild, Prince Harry is adjusting to his new personal and professional landscape as he turned 40 in mid-September. Sources have indicated that while Harry is deeply focused on his philanthropic pursuits, Meghan is concentrating on entrepreneurial efforts. Together, they are continuing their work through joint initiatives, like their new project to support families impacted by online harm.

Despite engaging in individual endeavors, the couple maintains a strong professional partnership. They continue to appear united in their support of shared causes, as highlighted by recent trips and joint ventures. “What we are seeing is a functional and healthy relationship with two working partners, not the contrary,” a royal insider remarked.
