Cm Punk Wrestling Royal Rumble Match

CHICAGO, Ill. — CM Punk, once known as the “voice of the voiceless” in professional wrestling, recently shared a surprising perspective on his career during a podcast appearance. The former WWE and AEW star revealed that he now values losing over winning, citing storytelling and long-term narratives as key reasons.

Punk, whose real name is Phil Brooks, was asked if he was disappointed about not winning the Royal Rumble match during his career. “Early in my career, yes,” Punk said. “Now, I’m more inclined to pitch me losing things. I think there is a broader story to tell, 100 percent. It’s all about the chase.”

He pointed to Cody Rhodes‘ loss to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 as an example. “That was Cody’s time. He loses in the main event and it’s [imitates mind being blown]. He spends the entire year as a redemption arc and he’s chasing the title and he wins it at 40,” Punk explained.

Punk also discussed how he would have booked his own Royal Rumble finish differently. “The Rumble didn’t go the way I would’ve booked it, so to speak. I would have had me and [John] Cena as the last two guys and I would’ve had Cena throw my ass over the top rope,” he said. “At this stage, losing is so much more valuable than winning. I’m almost afraid of me winning everything I ever dreamed of because what do I do then?”

Punk’s comments highlight a shift in his perspective on professional wrestling, emphasizing the importance of storytelling and character development over immediate victories. His insights come as he continues to reflect on his storied career, which has seen him become one of the most influential figures in the industry.
