Quebec member of the National Assembly from Charlevoix–Côte-de-Beaupré, Kariane Bourassa, recently shared a heartfelt video detailing her journey through infertility struggles and eventual success in becoming pregnant.

In the emotional video posted on her Instagram account, Bourassa candidly opens up about her three-year battle with fertility issues, a rare and personal revelation for a political figure, as noted by social media commentator Frédéric Labelle.

The video documents Bourassa’s experiences with daily injections, the emotional rollercoaster of negative pregnancy tests, and the unwavering support of her partner throughout this challenging journey.

Despite the significant financial burden of $40,000 for treatments, as her partner had previously undergone a vasectomy rendering them ineligible for government-funded IVF programs, Bourassa remained determined and resilient in her pursuit of parenthood.

While members of the National Assembly do not have access to parental leave benefits, Bourassa expressed her intention to potentially take a four-month break for her expected November delivery.

Reflecting on the sacrifices made for this dream, Bourassa acknowledged the financial and personal impacts of her fertility treatments, including delaying homeownership and retirement savings.

As she shared her moment of joy upon receiving the life-changing news amidst a busy day of official duties with visiting Moroccan delegates, Bourassa’s vulnerability and resilience shone through, showcasing the strength and determination behind her public persona.

This candid revelation by Bourassa not only sheds light on the realities faced by many couples struggling with fertility but also underscores the personal challenges and triumphs experienced by public figures behind the scenes.
