Raiders Face Coaching Shake-Up as Brady Takes the Helm
The Las Vegas Raiders are undergoing significant changes as they enter the 2025 offseason, with Tom Brady stepping into an executive role and the team searching for its fifth head coach in as many years. The recent firings of interim head coach Antonio Pierce and general manager Tom Telesco have left fans and analysts speculating about the team’s next moves.
Raiders fans are eager to see whether Brady, who has no prior executive experience, will opt for a young, innovative coach like Liam Coen, Todd Monken, or Joe Brady, or lean toward a seasoned veteran such as Pete Carroll. Carroll, who turns 74 in September, would likely be a short-term solution, while younger candidates could offer long-term stability and quarterback development.
Matt, a longtime Raiders analyst, shared his thoughts on the matter. “I prefer a young up-and-coming candidate like Coen, Brady, or Monken,” he said. “I’d like to get a young offensive mind who can develop a quarterback and be around for the long haul.”
The Raiders’ quarterback situation remains a key concern. With Aidan O'Connell currently on the roster, the team may look to develop him under a new offensive-minded coach. Ben Johnson, who recently accepted an interview with the Raiders, is seen as a potential fit. “That would certainly be the hope since O’Connell and Jared Goff have several similarities,” Matt noted.
Another name in the mix is Mike Vrabel, who was recently let go by the Tennessee Titans. While Vrabel’s desire for roster control raises concerns, Matt believes he is a better head coach than Josh McDaniels, who struggled during his tenure with the Raiders.
As for the possibility of a full rebuild, Matt suggested that the firings of Pierce and Telesco could signal a broader overhaul. “I could see Brady wanting to make sure he starts his executive career by doing things ‘his way,'” he said. However, star defensive end Maxx Crosby is expected to remain a cornerstone of the team, provided he is willing to endure the transition.
Defensive coordinator candidates are also under consideration, with names like Deshea Townsend, Kelvin Sheppard, and Kris Kocurek linked to potential hires. For Todd Monken, who is currently focused on the Ravens’ playoff run, the Raiders are among several teams interested in interviewing him for their head-coaching vacancy.
As the Raiders navigate this pivotal offseason, fans are left hoping that Brady’s leadership will bring stability and success to a franchise that has struggled to find consistency in recent years.
