Rajat Patidar replaces Virat Kohli for India’s Test series against England
Rajat Patidar has been called up to India‘s Test squad as a replacement for Virat Kohli, who has withdrawn from the first two Tests against England for personal reasons. Patidar, a 30-year-old batter from Madhya Pradesh, has impressive first-class numbers and recently showcased his form with scores of 111 and 151 in the unofficial Tests against England Lions. The decision to include Patidar reflects India’s strategy of giving opportunities to younger players in favorable conditions.
Kohli’s absence from the initial Tests aligns with England batter Harry Brook‘s return to the UK for similar personal reasons. The BCCI expressed its support for Kohli and stated that the remaining squad members have the ability to step up. They also requested the media and fans to respect Kohli’s privacy during this time.
This is the first Test series India will play without Kohli’s presence in over two years. The 32-year-old batter had been a consistent presence in the team, having not missed a Test match since 2019. Patidar’s inclusion in the squad provides an opportunity for him to make his Test debut.
The five-match Test series between India and England is set to commence in Hyderabad on Thursday. The teams will clash in what promises to be an exciting and closely contested series.
