Rapper Killer Mike Arrested At Grammys: Alleges 'overzealous' Security Guard Involved

American rapper Killer Mike was arrested at the Grammys, where he emerged as a big winner, taking home three awards. The 48-year-old artist beat out major stars like Travis Scott, Nas, Drake, and 21 Savage to win Best Rap Album. His track ‘Scientists & Engineers’ also earned him two awards: Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance.

Shortly after his wins, Killer Mike was seen being escorted in handcuffs from the Crypto.com Arena in LA, where the awards were taking place. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed his arrest and revealed that he was booked for misdemeanor battery before being released.

An unnamed security guard alleged that Killer Mike pushed her to the floor when he tried to make his way around her at an entrance. In response, Killer Mike released a statement to Rolling Stone, claiming that there was confusion over which door his team should enter and that they encountered an overzealous security guard. He expressed confidence that he would ultimately be cleared of any wrongdoing.

Killer Mike’s team added that the situation had been blown out of proportion and they believe the facts would show that he did not commit the alleged offense, leading to his exoneration.

Killer Mike, whose real name is Michael Render, is widely known for his solo career and as part of the duo Run the Jewels. He has released several studio albums, including collaborations with Outkast, such as the track ‘Snappin’ & Trappin’.’

The rapper’s lawyer confirmed that he had been released and would be celebrating his Grammy wins. Despite the incident, Killer Mike expressed gratitude for the concern and support from his fans and colleagues.

In his statement, Killer Mike also thanked the Recording Academy for recognizing his latest album ‘Michael.’ He mentioned that his previous Grammy win was more than 20 years ago as a featured artist on Outkast’s ‘The Whole World.’ He expressed pride in his recent wins and shared the joyful news that his son, who had been waiting for a kidney transplant, finally had a match.
