NBC has officially announced the series order for ‘Happy’s Place,’ a new comedy starring the talented Reba McEntire, alongside renewing ‘Lopez vs. Lopez‘ for an anticipated third season. This move solidifies the network’s comedy lineup for the upcoming 2024-25 broadcast season.

‘Happy’s Place’ centers around Bobbie, portrayed by Reba McEntire, who unexpectedly inherits her father’s restaurant only to discover she has a newly found business partner in her long-lost half-sister, played by Belissa Escobedo. The cast also includes familiar faces such as Melissa Peterman, Pablo Castelblanco, Tokala Black Elk, and Rex Linn. The show, produced by Universal Television, is helmed by showrunner Kevin Abbott and brings together a stellar team that is sure to deliver a blend of humor and heartwarming moments. Executive producers include Kevin Abbott, Michael Hanel, Mindy Schultheis, Julie Abbott, and Reba McEntire.

On the heels of its successful second season, ‘Lopez vs. Lopez’ has secured a renewal for Season 3. The comedy, starring George Lopez alongside his daughter Mayan Lopez, has garnered a strong following, with nearly 10 million total viewers across all platforms. Known for its comedy and relatable family dynamics, the series has resonated well with audiences, especially English-dominant Hispanic households. Key executive producers driving the show’s success are co-creator and showrunner Debby Wolfe, Bruce Helford, Michael Rotenberg, and Katie Newman.

Unfortunately, not all shows are moving forward as planned. NBC has opted to cancel the rookie comedy ‘Extended Family,’ headlined by Jon Cryer. Despite its promising premise and talented cast, the show did not find the audience traction needed for a renewal. Fans will have to bid farewell to this comedy series that aimed to bring laughs and heartwarming moments to viewers.

In the grand scheme of NBC’s entertainment lineup, these decisions come as the network prepares for its upcoming upfront presentation to advertisers. With ‘Happy’s Place’ joining the roster alongside popular shows like ‘Lopez vs. Lopez,’ NBC is shaping its comedy offerings to cater to diverse audiences and bring entertaining content to viewers. As the landscape of television evolves, networks like NBC continue to seek fresh, engaging content that resonates with audiences of all demographics.
