Red Bull Racing Feud: Tsunoda’s Lack of Control Evident in Bahrain Grand Prix Clash with Ricciardo
Yuki Tsunoda admits he doesn’t have the self-control that his Red Bull Racing team ‘values’ during the Bahrain Grand Prix clash with teammate Daniel Ricciardo. The incident occurred when the team asked Tsunoda to swap places with Ricciardo, who was on a faster tyre compound.
Ricciardo, on the softer tyre, was aiming to overtake Haas driver Kevin Magnussen, while Tsunoda, on a harder compound, was hindering Ricciardo’s progress. The battle wasn’t for points, with Ricciardo finishing 13th and Tsunoda in 14th position.
Tensions escalated as Tsunoda expressed frustration over the team order, questioning the timing on lap 52 of the race. Despite the team’s decision not to ask Ricciardo to give back the place at the end of the race, both drivers were left discontent.
The radio feud continued post-race, with Tsunoda’s sarcastic remarks and criticism of Ricciardo’s pace adding fuel to the fire. The clash highlighted the competitive dynamics within the Red Bull Racing team, with both drivers eyeing a potential seat alongside Max Verstappen.
Red Bull Racing is expected to make a decision on their second driver after the winter break in August, with Tsunoda and Ricciardo as the main contenders. Tsunoda’s future with the team may be further complicated by the change of engine manufacturer to Ford in 2026.
Former Red Bull Racing owner Eddie Jordan suggested that Tsunoda’s presence in the team is influenced by Honda’s requirements, signaling a potential shift to Aston Martin when Honda becomes the engine supplier for the team.
The incident at the Bahrain Grand Prix underscored Tsunoda’s struggle with composure and control under pressure. Ricciardo’s calm demeanor and maturity in handling team orders contrasted with Tsunoda’s immediate emotional reactions, raising concerns about his readiness for a top team.
