Reed Commits to Wisconsin After Unofficial Visit, Joining 2026 Class

MADISON, Wis. — Carmelow Reed, a three-star defensive lineman from Rich Central High School in Olympia Fields, Illinois, has officially committed to the University of Wisconsin for the class of 2026 following an unofficial visit over the weekend.
Reed, who stands 6 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 250 pounds, made the unexpected decision after an engaging positional meeting with the University of Wisconsin’s coaching staff. During the meeting, Reed felt a strong connection to the program. “I didn’t know I was going to commit,” he told Badger247. “It was the atmosphere, the family feeling. I felt like I was wanted there. They just welcomed me with open arms.”
The support Reed received from the staff, including the ongoing communication and enthusiasm from assistant coaches, reinforced his decision. “They showed constant support and appreciation. Each and every one of them made it known how badly they wanted me there and the impact I could have on their program,” he added.
Certain Wisconsin coaches, specifically outside linebackers coach Matt Mitchell and defensive line coach EJ Whitlow, were instrumental in Reed’s recruitment. He highlighted their consistent outreach as a key factor. “Wisconsin texts me, sends me graphics, and talks to my family. They’ve been consistent in my life,” Reed said. “It was a no-brainer after I was hearing what I was hearing.”
Reed’s decision took his mother by surprise. “She was shocked as well,” he laughed. “She was happy for me though. She thought it was a perfect decision.”
Prior to committing, Reed had received scholarship offers from several programs including Ball State, Cincinnati, LSU, and Michigan State. His performance as a junior included 33 tackles, 12 for loss, 5 sacks, and three forced fumbles, showcasing his potential as a formidable stand-up edge rusher.
<p“I feel like I fit in perfectly,” Reed remarked, expressing confidence in his fit within the Badger program. Wisconsin was his only visit this spring, with the standout prospect also having visited Indiana last season, though he has continued to attract attention from other schools such as Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
Reed acknowledged the significance of feeling welcomed at his chosen university. “It’s a welcoming environment. Again, the consistent support from the coaches, I feel like Wisconsin will really be home for me,” he said.
The commitment from Reed marks him as the third addition to Wisconsin’s 2026 recruiting class, alongside offensive lineman Benjamin Novak and wide receiver Tayshon Bardo. He plans to officially revisit the campus on June 6, and will major in education.
<p“Making my decision early is probably best for me,” Reed stated. “I feel like it’s a lot of stress relieved. Now I can focus on the season and my guys. We want to have a winning season and make it to the playoffs.”
