Rennes Triumph in Thrilling Coupe de France Final Against PSG
In a thrilling conclusion to the Coupe de France, Rennes emerged victorious in a face-off against Paris Saint-Germain at the iconic Stade de France. This marked Rennes’ seventh final appearance, determined to claim their third Coupe de France trophy after their previous defeat to En Avant Guingamp.
The journey to the final was anything but easy for Rennes, starting with a nail-biting penalty shootout against Brest at Roazhon Park in the round of 64. They then overcame challenges posed by Saint-Pryvé Saint-Hilaire, LOSC Lille, and US Orléans, before a dramatic late goal against Lyon secured their spot in the semi-finals.
Facing PSG in the final, Rennes found themselves trailing by two goals early on, courtesy of strikes from Brazilian stars Dani Alves and Neymar Jr. However, a goal from Presnel Kimpembe gave Rennes hope before Edson Mexer’s equalizer sent the game into a tense penalty shootout.
The shootout was a nerve-wracking affair, with Rennes eventually triumphing 6-5 over PSG. This victory not only secured their third Coupe de France title but also granted them qualification for the UEFA Europa League for the third time in their history.
