Renowned Playback Singer Bhavatharini Dies at 47
Bhavatharini, the renowned playback singer and daughter of music director Ilaiyaraaja, passed away at the age of 47. She succumbed to stage four liver cancer while undergoing ayurveda treatment in Sri Lanka. Her untimely demise has left the music industry in shock and mourning.
Upon hearing the news, a number of celebrities, including Silambarasan, Anirudh Ravichander, Chinmayi Sripaada, and others, took to social media to express their condolences to Ilaiyaraaja and his family.
Popularly known as the ‘voice that forever lives in the heart of people for its innocence and love,’ Bhavatharini was admired for her pure soul and musical talent. Silambarasan, also known as Simbu, shared a touching tribute on X, praying for strength for the Illayaraja’s family and his brother Yuvan Shankar Raja. He also shared a clip of Bhavatharini singing a portion of ‘Meherezylaa’ from the film ‘Maanaadu’, composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja and directed by her cousin Venkat Prabhu.
Bhavatharini began her career in the music industry with the song ‘Masthana Masthana’ from the film ‘Raasaiyya’ in 1995, which was composed by her father. She went on to compose music for the critically acclaimed movie ‘Mitr, My Friend’ directed by Revathi. Bhavatharini’s talent expanded beyond Tamil cinema as she also worked in Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi films.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed his shock and sadness over Bhavatharini’s sudden demise. He praised her unique voice and recalled her National Film Award-winning song in the movie ‘Bharathi’. Stalin extended his condolences to Ilaiyaraaja and the bereaved family.
Bhavatharini’s passing is a significant loss for the music world. Her contributions and talent will be remembered by her fans and peers. She leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire budding musicians in the industry.
