Ricky Martin Opens Up About Painful Accusations and Coming Out Journey
Ricky Martin has shared the most painful experience of his life, reflecting on being accused of incest by his nephew Dennis Yadiel Sanchez.
In 2022, Sanchez filed for a protection order against Martin, claiming a seven-month relationship. Martin, speaking to GQ magazine, called it ‘the worst thing,’ but thankfully, the allegations were unfounded.
The ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’ singer, who publicly came out as gay in 2010, after the birth of his children Valentino and Matteo via a surrogate, attributes his career success to this ‘timing.’ He believes that had he come out earlier, the trajectory of his career might have been different due to the hate that comes with it.
Reflecting on his past fears about coming out, Martin shared how even close friends warned him it would ‘be over’ for his music career. The fear stemmed from the high expectations and image he felt pressured to maintain, especially during his peak in the late ’90s with hits like ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’.
Martin shares five-year-old Lucia and three-year-old Renn with ex-husband Jwan Yosef and confessed he is now relieved and no longer living a lie. He admires teens who come out early, expressing they are lucky to not have to pretend anymore.
