New Delhi, India — Bangladesh spinner Rishad Hossain recently shared that dismissing renowned batsman Virat Kohli was his favorite wicket during the 2023 Champions Trophy. This achievement took place during a Group A match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, where he managed to trap Kohli, who scored 22 runs off 38 balls. Despite Hossain’s impressive performance, Bangladesh lost the match by six wickets.

Kohli’s dismissal occurred while he was attempting a late cut off a fuller delivery. He edged the ball directly to Soumya Sarkar, who made a straightforward catch. Rishad Hossain also claimed the wicket of Axar Patel, concluding the game with impressive bowling figures of 10 overs, 2 wickets for 38 runs. Rishad expressed his excitement about his performance, stating, “I think my favorite wicket in the Champions Trophy was Virat Kohli. It was a completely new experience for me.” He also noted the overwhelming response he received on social media as heartwarming.

In addition to his recent achievements, Rishad is set to feature in the Big Bash League (BBL) for the Hobart Hurricanes. This marks the return of a Bangladeshi player to the league since Shakib Al Hasan played for the Melbourne Renegades in the 2014–15 season. The Hurricanes had selected Rishad last year, but he couldn’t participate due to the Bangladesh Cricket Board withholding a No Objection Certificate (NOC).

Rishad emphasized the significance of participating in the BBL, stating, “I’m truly happy and excited for the Big Bash. It’s one of the biggest leagues in the world.” He pledged to represent his country to the best of his ability during his upcoming stint in Hobart. The Hobart Hurricanes are set to begin their campaign on December 16 against Sydney Thunder at the Bellerive Oval.
