Riyan Parag, the promising young cricketer from Assam, made a historic debut for India in the first T20I against Zimbabwe, marking a significant milestone for himself and his state.

Parag was among three cricketers, alongside Dhruv Jurel and Abhishek Sharma, who were handed their first caps for India, under the captaincy of Shubman Gill in Zimbabwe.

What made Parag’s debut even more special was the heartwarming gesture of receiving his India cap from his father, Parag Das, who had a professional cricketing career representing Assam.

Head coach for this series, Shubman Gill, entrusted Parag Das with the honor of presenting the cap to his son, creating an emotional moment as Parag Das placed the cap on Riyan’s head, almost moved to tears.

Riyan Parag’s journey to his national debut was fueled by his exceptional performance in the IPL 2024 for Rajasthan Royals, where he displayed remarkable skill and consistency.

In an interview shared by the BCCI, Riyan expressed his childhood dream of donning the Indian jersey and traveling with the national side, making his debut at the Harare Sports Club a deeply significant moment.

India’s captain, Shubman Gill, chose to field first in the match, indicating a strong batting line-up and confidence in the team’s ability to chase down targets.

The Indian XI for the match included players like Abhishek Sharma, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rinku Singh, along with the debutants Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel, showcasing the depth and talent of the squad.

Zimbabwe, led by Sikandar Raza, presented a competitive challenge with players like Blessing Muzarabani and Tendai Chatara in their line-up, setting the stage for an exciting encounter.
