Rochester School Warns Community of SAT Test Scam
A Rochester-area school has raised alarms after identifying a scam targeting parents concerning SAT test results. The warning, issued on Thursday, highlights the attempt by scammers to collect personal information from unsuspecting parents in the Gates-Chili school district.
The district informed parents that a scammer contacted a district parent under false pretenses, claiming that the parent’s child had recently taken a practice SAT exam. The scammer sought to acquire personal information, including a credit card number, by promising to mail the student’s test results.
“Please be advised that neither the district nor any legitimate SAT test organizations will request payment or personal financial details over the phone for test results,” the district emphasized in its communication to parents. “Your safety and privacy are our top priorities, and this is a timely reminder not to share personal or financial information over the phone with unsolicited callers.”
In their advisory, the district urged parents who receive such calls to hang up immediately and report the incident to local authorities. The notice serves as a precautionary measure to prevent further instances of fraud within the community.
