Ruben Amorim to Stay at Manchester United, Garnacho Excluded

Manchester, England — Ruben Amorim has announced to his Manchester United squad that he will continue as head coach next season, despite the team’s struggles this year. However, in a significant move, he has informed Alejandro Garnacho that he should seek a new club this summer.
Amorim’s decision comes following United’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final on Wednesday, which capped off a disappointing season for the team. Currently, United sits 16th in the Premier League, facing their worst finish in the league’s history.
Sources close to the club, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that Amorim addressed the players at Carrington, the club’s training ground, on Saturday, discussing both his future and Garnacho’s. Manchester United has a policy of maintaining privacy regarding internal matters and declined to comment further.
In the aftermath of the Europa League defeat, Garnacho seemed frustrated, having been used as a substitute only in the 71st minute. He expressed his feelings after the match, stating, “It’s hard for everyone. The season was s***, both now losing the final tonight, and in the league, where we didn’t beat anyone, that’s the truth.”
Garnacho’s brother, Roberto, further fueled speculation on social media by implying that his sibling had been let down by Amorim, particularly after his strong performance throughout the tournament leading up to the final.
Despite Amorim’s earlier praise for Garnacho’s abilities, he opted to start Mason Mount over him for the final, a decision that has drawn criticism. When asked about his choice, Amorim replied, “It’s easy to say that now. Who missed the big opportunity in the first half in the semi-final? Garnacho. Football is like that.”
Garnacho has had a busy season, appearing 58 times for the club, scoring 11 goals. He joined United from Atletico Madrid in October 2020 and has since made significant contributions, but his future at the club is now in doubt.
With the Premier League season concluding with a match against Aston Villa on Sunday, Amorim faces uncertainty about his squad’s composition for the next season. In his comments regarding future planning, he said, “We have a plan — we were prepared for both situations, with or without Champions League,” indicating a focus on necessary adjustments.
