Ruturaj Gaikwad Cricket Match Ipl

CHENNAI, India — Ruturaj Gaikwad, captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), made headlines on March 28, 2025, by becoming the second captain in Indian Premier League (IPL) history to record two ducks against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the tournament. This occurred during CSK’s last league match of IPL 2024, which ultimately led to their elimination from the tournament.

Gaikwad, who began the IPL 2025 season on a high note with a quickfire 53 runs off 26 balls against the Mumbai Indians, faced a disappointing outing against RCB at Chepauk. Coming in at No. 3 during a challenging 197-run chase, Gaikwad was dismissed for a golden duck, falling to Josh Hazlewood on just the fourth ball he faced.

In a disappointing start for CSK, Gaikwad faced three consecutive dot balls from Hazlewood before mistiming a pull shot that landed directly in the fielder’s hands at deep backward square leg. Hazlewood’s earlier dismissal of Rahul Tripathi added to CSK’s early struggles, which impeded their attempt to chase down RCB’s formidable total.

Gaikwad’s performance raised eyebrows as he became the second team captain after Rohit Sharma to record this unfortunate feat against RCB. His dismissal marked a significant moment, pairing him with another notable player who had suffered earlier in the tournament.

After the match, Gaikwad acknowledged the challenging season for CSK, stating, “It’s disappointing not to contribute to the team’s efforts, especially at such a critical point in the tournament.” Despite this setback, he remains optimistic and is looking to regain form as the season progresses.
