On the occasion of Sachin Tendulkar‘s birthday on April 24, 2024, cricket legend Viv Richards paid a heartfelt tribute to the Master Blaster, referring to him as the ‘God’ of batting. The moniker, often used by Tendulkar’s fans, was echoed by Richards, a true cricket icon in his own right.

Before the start of the ODI World Cup in 2011, Vivian Richards expressed his deep emotional connection with Tendulkar and his wish for India to win the tournament in honor of the batting maestro. Richards went on to commend Tendulkar’s impact on cricket, stating that Sachin created a foundation for Indian cricket and elevated the standards of the team.

Reflecting on Tendulkar’s remarkable World Cup record, it is evident that the Master Blaster left an indelible mark on the tournament. With 2,278 runs at an average of 56.95, including 6 centuries and 15 fifties, Tendulkar stands as the highest run-scorer in Cricket World Cup history.

India’s victorious campaign in the 2011 World Cup, led by MS Dhoni, marked a fitting end to Tendulkar’s illustrious career. After retiring from international cricket, Tendulkar continued his association with the sport by assuming the role of mentor for the Mumbai Indians franchise in the IPL.
