San Antonio Spurs Vs Orlando Magic Preseason 2024

San Antonio, Texas – The San Antonio Spurs are set to face the Orlando Magic in a preseason matchup at the Frost Bank Center on Wednesday, with the game scheduled to tip off at 8 p.m. Eastern Time. The excitement in San Antonio centers on the anticipated debuts of key players such as Victor Wembanyama and Chris Paul, who were absent in the Spurs’ opening exhibition loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder due to rest and minor injuries.

Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich explained that Wembanyama, along with other teammates, was rested due to “dings, rest, a little bit of everything” following a taxing week at training camp. This decision was part of a strategical approach to ensure player readiness for the upcoming season.

Wembanyama, entering his sophomore season, garnered significant attention last year with impressive averages of 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, and a league-leading 3.6 blocks per game, earning him the NBA Rookie of the Year title. Meanwhile, Paul joined the Spurs in July on a one-year contract, bringing with him over 18 years of experience and a third-place ranking in all-time NBA assists, having dished out 11,894 assists so far.

“I’m just excited like everybody else to get a chance to play alongside [Wembanyama], along with a lot of the other guys on the team,” said Paul, eager to contribute his veteran prowess to the Spurs’ developing squad.

Additionally, several Spurs players are on the road to recovery from injuries. Devin Vassell, Charles Bassey, and Zach Collins continue to manage their rehabilitation from offseason surgeries. Nonetheless, they will sit out Wednesday’s game as they gradually increment their practice workloads. Doug McDermott will also miss the contest due to a right adductor issue.

Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic’s preparations face their own challenges. Wendell Carter Jr. is listed as day-to-day after spraining his left ankle in the Magic’s previous preseason game against the New Orleans Pelicans. His injury occurred while contesting a shot, landing awkwardly on another player’s foot.

As the teams prepare for their preseason meeting, fans and analysts alike will be closely observing the performances of both seasoned and emerging talents, particularly Wembanyama and Paul, who are expected to lead the Spurs in the early stages of their regular season campaign.
