San Diego State Aztecs Aim to Extend Dominance Over Air Force Falcons
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The San Diego State Aztecs (11-5, 4-3 Mountain West) will face the Air Force Falcons (3-15, 0-7) in a Mountain West Conference showdown at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Clune Arena. The Aztecs, coming off a 76-68 loss to UNLV, look to extend their 10-game winning streak against the Falcons, who are mired in an eight-game losing skid.
San Diego State leads the all-time series 66-24, including a dominant 67-38 victory two weeks ago at Viejas Arena. The Aztecs have not lost to Air Force since January 2019, a streak spanning six years. Despite their recent loss to UNLV, San Diego State has been resilient after defeats, winning 35 of their last 39 games following a loss.
The Aztecs will don their red uniforms, which have been a topic of superstition within the program. Despite a history of mixed results, the team is 3-0 in red under head coach Brian Dutcher this season. “We’ve been better lately,” Dutcher said, referencing the team’s recent success in the alternate uniforms.
Air Force, meanwhile, has struggled mightily, ranking last in the Mountain West in scoring (63.2 points per game) and free-throw shooting (60.9%). Senior guard Ethan Taylor has been a bright spot, averaging 14.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, but the Falcons lack depth, with no other player averaging more than 9.3 points.
San Diego State’s focus in practice has been on improving across the board after UNLV outperformed them in key statistical categories. “We need to be better everywhere,” Dutcher emphasized. The Aztecs’ rebounding advantage (37.5 per game) could prove decisive against Air Force’s 29.2 average.
Kenpom, a leading college basketball analytics site, projects a 70-56 victory for San Diego State. The Aztecs will look to maintain their momentum before facing Nevada on Saturday.
