Sandy Koufax Dodgers Jersey Auction 2023

Dallas, Texas – A game-worn, signed jersey of baseball legend Sandy Koufax is up for auction at Heritage Auctions, with an estimated value exceeding $1 million.

The No. 32 Los Angeles Dodgers jersey comes from Koufax’s final season in 1966. It has been photo-matched to a game on May 14 at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh and two other occasions during the same season, even when Koufax did not pitch.

At 89, Koufax is hailed as one of the most dominant left-handed pitchers in baseball history. He retired at the young age of 30 after securing his third Cy Young Award and earning the nickname “the Left Arm of God.”

Willie Stargell, a Hall of Fame left fielder and first baseman, remarked, “Trying to hit him was like trying to drink coffee with a fork.”

Koufax, who is celebrated as one of the most cherished Jewish athletes in American sports, notably refused to pitch in Game 1 of the 1965 World Series because it coincided with Yom Kippur.

He is frequently listed among the greatest players of all time and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1972 at the youngest age ever, marking him as the second Jewish player to receive this honor.

Heritage Auctions has classified the jersey as “superior” grade, indicating it is 100% original and in excellent condition, free from the typical stains or moth damage seen in old flannel.

As of now, bidding for the jersey has reached $370,000 and is scheduled to close on Saturday.
