Bucharest, RomaniaSebastian Baez and Luciano Darderi secured their places in the semifinals of the ATP events held on April 4, 2025, showcasing strong performances in their respective matches.

Baez, the Argentine player, triumphed over fellow countryman Juan Manuel Comesana in a tightly contested match at the ATP 250 tournament in Bucharest. Baez won the match with a score of 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-1, demonstrating his resilience and skill on clay courts.

With his victory, Baez improved to No. 34 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings and extended his impressive record on clay this season. Prior to his win today, he lifted the trophy at the ATP 500 in Rio de Janeiro in February and made it to the final in Santiago. He won 53 percent of the points on Comesana’s second serve and broke his opponent’s serve four times, advancing after a grueling two-hour and 20-minute match.

“It was hard because it is always tough to play against a fellow Argentine,” Baez said in a post-match interview. “I am happy with my level and his level too because he is doing very well. I am happy to be in the next round.”

Baez’s semifinal opponent will be defending champion Marton Fucsovics, who continued his strong showing in Bucharest by defeating Australia’s Max Purcell 6-0, 6-4. Fucsovics, who won this tournament last season, has now won eight consecutive matches in Romania and is chasing his first title since last year’s victory.

Meanwhile, in Marrakech, Italy’s Luciano Darderi also reached the semifinals of the ATP 250 tournament after defeating Czech player Tomáš Kopřiva with a scoreline of 7-5, 6-2. This marks Darderi’s fourth ATP Tour semifinal appearance, all of which have been on clay courts. His current tournament run has extended to three consecutive victories for the first time since last July.

Darderi’s performance included saving five of six break points and hitting five aces during his 10 service games. “I feel good playing on clay, and I’m excited to keep this momentum going,” Darderi stated after his match. He will face fifth seed Albert Ramos Viñolas in the semifinals, who advanced past fourth seed Laslo Djere 6-4, 6-4.

Additionally, top seed Tallon Griekspoor advanced to the semifinals in Marrakech with a decisive 6-3, 6-4 victory against eighth seed. Griekspoor, marking his first semifinal on clay in the ATP Tour, is the second Dutchman to reach this stage in tournament history, following in 1995. His next challenge will be against Polish qualifier Kacper Żuk, who upset third seed in his quarterfinal match.

Both Darderi and Griekspoor’s matches mark significant progression in their respective careers as they aim for their first ATP titles. As the tournaments unfold this weekend, fans can expect thrilling matches showcasing emerging talents on the ATP circuit.
