Ottawa Senators Fan Survey Results

OTTAWA, Ontario — Ottawa Senators fans are experiencing a revitalized sense of hope for the 2025 NHL season, according to new poll results reflecting their opinions on the team’s performance and playoff ambitions based on the recent turnaround.

The survey, conducted through The Athletic, reveals a stark contrast in fan sentiment after a disappointing start to the season. In late November, 80% of respondents believed the Senators wouldn’t make the playoffs. However, the latest figures show that 88.4% of fans now expect the team to contend for a postseason spot.

After struggling to a 19-11-2 record since December 3, where several notable winning streaks boosted morale, fans are excited about the impending March 7 trade deadline. Among the hottest topics discussed in the survey was which players the Senators could potentially acquire. Enthusiasm is growing for the team’s prospects as they prepare for what could be a competitive playoff push.

“It’s funny how things change,” said a fan from the survey. “This team has proven they’re better than expected, and we have the chance to make a real run.”

With playoff possibilities on the horizon, many fans expressed hope for a first-round matchup against their provincial rivals, the Toronto Maple Leafs — a matchup that hasn’t occurred since 2004. “A Leafs-Senators series would be epic,” said one respondent, highlighting the significance of the rivalry.

Tim Stützle, who topped the poll as the best player on the team with 46.7% of the votes, continues to impress as a pivotal part of the Senators’ resurgence. Following him were Jake Sanderson and Thomas Chabot, who received increased support as their play improved throughout the season.

In contrast, the poll indicated that fans are less than pleased with the performance of some players. David Perron, who has struggled early in the season, and Travis Hamonic, who has faced scrutiny from fans, ranked high in the most disappointing category.

“I think we need to add a forward,” commented one passionate fan. “We’re scoring goals, but we need depth moving into the playoffs.” According to the survey, 68.9% of fans prefer the Senators to acquire a forward ahead of the deadline.

Ryan Donato of the Chicago Blackhawks emerged as a favoured target for 2025. The 28-year-old is expected to attract interest due to his offensive capabilities and affordable price point. Fans have voiced their desire to see the team invest smartly in players that can enhance the roster without sacrificing too much future potential.

“Donato could really complement our offense,” explained another fan. “We can’t just rely on our first-line players to carry us through the playoffs.”

As the Senators draw closer to their trade deadline strategy, the results of the survey underscore a significant shift in mindset among fans and hint at optimism regarding a postseason run. With their recent performances breathing new life into the franchise, Ottawa Senators supporters are ready to rally behind their team as they look to reverse early-season misfortunes.
