Aep Ohio Power Outages Preparation

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Residents of Columbus are being warned to prepare for severe weather this weekend as AEP Ohio gears up for potential power outages. Following days of pleasant 70-degree weather, forecasts indicate a shift to stormy conditions.

Dylan Brown, Columbus Operations Manager for AEP Ohio, acknowledged the sudden change in weather patterns. “This week’s been one of the nicest weeks we’ve had in a while, so our crews have kind of transitioned out of those winter months of working, and now we’re getting into the nicer weather days,” he said. Brown emphasized that their crews are proactively maintaining and upgrading power lines and equipment, with readiness to respond to any outages expected.

As the anticipated storms approach, Brown advised residents to take precautionary measures. “Now is the time to prepare. As we get closer to the weekend, and it sounds like we might have some windy days, make sure you have an emergency preparedness kit ready that includes plenty of drinking water,” he urged. He suggested residents also consider having canned food items and a manual can opener on hand.

AEP Ohio employs on-site meteorologists to closely track weather developments and assist in restoration planning. “Part of preparing is if the weather looks like it’s going to get bad enough, we’ll actually start asking for outside crews outside of Ohio to come in and help with restoration efforts. Other than that, we have over 40 service centers here in Ohio,” Brown explained. He added that crews can be redirected from various locations to respond effectively to affected areas.

With storm warnings escalating, residents are instructed to stay alert and keep safe. AEP Ohio reminds the public to steer clear of downed power lines and to call 911 in case of hazardous situations. For ongoing weather updates, the ABC6 weather app is recommended for local forecasts and alerts.
