Sevilla’s Chidera Ejuke Scores Match-Winner Against Real Valladolid
Sevilla secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Real Valladolid in the Spanish La Liga, with a key contribution from Nigerian forward Chidera Ejuke. The match took place at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, where Ejuke, a second-half substitute, scored in the 85th minute to secure the win for his team.
Ejuke, who was introduced to the game as a substitute for captain Jesus Navas, made an immediate impact. The 26-year-old capitalized on a loose pass from Valladolid and skillfully maneuvered past three defenders before striking the ball precisely into the bottom corner of the net, catching the goalkeeper off-guard. This goal marks Ejuke’s first for Sevilla, a significant achievement in his sixth appearance for the club.
Sevilla initially took the lead right before halftime. Dodi Lukebakio drove a cross into the penalty area, which was inadvertently turned into the goal by a joint effort from Sevilla’s Peque Fernandez and Valladolid defender David Torres. However, Real Valladolid responded shortly after the break with a goal from Kike Perez, leveling the score at 1-1.
The victory was vital for Sevilla, lifting them to 12th place on the league table with eight points accumulated over seven matches. The team’s coach, García Pimienta, expressed his satisfaction with Ejuke’s contribution, emphasizing the importance of such performances in building momentum.
Chidera Ejuke joined Sevilla from Russian club CSKA Moscow as the first signing of their summer transfer season. Besides Ejuke, another Nigerian, Kelechi Iheanacho, started the match for Sevilla but was substituted in the second half after struggling to find the back of the net.
The victory marks Sevilla’s second win of the season, offering fans a glimpse of positivity amid an underwhelming start. The result sees Real Valladolid slipping further towards the relegation zone as they continue their quest for survival in Spain’s top flight.
