Shane Bowers Hockey Trade

San Jose, California – The San Jose Sharks announced today that they have acquired forward Shane Bowers from the New Jersey Devils. The trade, which involves forward Thomas Bordeleau, was confirmed by Sharks General Manager Mike Grier.

“We’re excited to add a former first-round pick in Shane to our organization,” Grier stated. “He brings good size, strong skating and competes at both ends of the ice.” Bowers, 25, had a total of 17 points, comprised of three goals and 14 assists, in 65 games last season with the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League (AHL). He also made a brief appearance in the NHL with the Devils.

Throughout his career, Bowers has accumulated 97 points (44 goals, 53 assists) in AHL play. He had his best season in 2019-20 with the Colorado Eagles, scoring a career-high 27 points. Last season, he reached double-digit goals for the second time in his AHL career.

Bowers made his NHL debut with the Colorado Avalanche on November 10, 2022, against the Nashville Predators. He has since played in 13 NHL games, including parts of the last two seasons with the Devils.

Prior to turning professional, Bowers played two seasons for Boston University, achieving 53 points in 77 games. He was instrumental in helping the Terriers win the national championship during the 2017-18 season and was recognized as a Hockey East All-Rookie Team member.

The New Jersey Devils confirmed their side of the trade, announcing the acquisition of Thomas Bordeleau. Bordeleau, 23, has spent the majority of the past season with the San Jose Barracuda, the Sharks’ AHL affiliate, where he scored 38 points in 59 games.

Bordeleau has appeared in 44 NHL games, where he scored six goals and 12 assists. His performance as a rookie at the University of Michigan earned him accolades, including Big Ten Freshman of the Year and the Tim Taylor Award for the top collegiate rookie.

This trade marks a new chapter for both players, as Bowers joins the Sharks aiming for greater opportunity, while Bordeleau heads to New Jersey in search of a fresh start.
