Diego Simeone Atletico Madrid Sevilla Match Preview

Madrid, SpainAtletico Madrid will face Sevilla at the Estadio Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Saturday, marking a significant matchup between coaches Diego Simeone and Matías Almeyda. Simeone, who has a longstanding friendship with Almeyda, shared insights on the game during a media session on Friday.

“It’s not that we choose a back four, five or six; the game can lead you to different formations depending on how the opposition plays,” Simeone said, referencing how his team adapted formations during their recent match against Betis.

He added, “You have to adapt, there’s a snapshot of how you start, but then the systems vary depending on how the opposition moves.” This flexibility is key for Atletico as they prepare to face a Sevilla team known for their aggressive pressing style.

Simeone also discussed the return of José Giménez, saying, “He hasn’t played for over 40 days. He has recovered quite well, and he is progressing in training. He’s one of the best players we have at pressing defensively and getting forward from the second line,” indicating that Giménez might play a crucial role in Saturday’s lineup.

Looking ahead, Simeone emphasized the importance of having all players fit, especially with a demanding schedule approaching. “We have nine games in a row coming in November and December. We’re thinking about tomorrow and the tough opponent we face,” he remarked.

Regarding his connection with Almeyda, Simeone expressed heartfelt sentiments, stating, “He’s a friend, and I’m very fond of him. We had a great relationship when we were teammates. I’m happy he’s come to Spanish football. His team presses like he did as a player, reflecting his work and commitment on the pitch.”

As the two teams prepare for the clash, anticipation grows and fans look forward to a competitive matchup in La Liga.
