Sir David Jason’s New BBC Show Takes Him to Scotland
Portsoy and other areas of the north-east are set to feature in a new BBC TV show featuring Sir David Jason and Jay Blades. The show, titled David & Jay’s Touring Toolshed, will see them travel to various events around the UK to meet crafters, makers, and tinkerers, as well as offer assistance to those in need.
The first episode, which aired on BBC Two, showcased the duo’s visit to the Midlands Air Festival, where they encountered Becky, a retired doctor who had a passion for basket weaving. With the help of expert basket maker Helen, they worked together to improve Becky’s basket making skills and fix some bad habits.
In addition to craft shows, the pair also explored the fishing village of Portsoy during the Scottish Traditional Boat Festival. They met with a local rowing group and learned about their handmade boat. They also visited Cullen, where they met a traditional cooper and tried their hand at barrel-making.
The upcoming episode will feature Cullen and Fraserburgh, where the hosts will meet individuals such as Rupert and Karen, who have built their own miniature railway and are looking to create a wheelchair-friendly carriage. They will also learn pottery skills from a local potter, and meet with father and son Derek and Oliver, who have completed a remarkable lockdown project, the 200ft long Cullen Tapestry.
David & Jay’s Touring Toolshed provides viewers with a glimpse into the lesser-known side of Sir David Jason, showcasing his lifelong passion for creating and fixing things.
