Sounders Seek Historic Win Against Nashville SC on Saturday

SEATTLE, Wash. — The Seattle Sounders will host Nashville SC at 4:30 p.m. PT on Saturday at Lumen Field, looking for their first-ever win against the opponent in MLS competition. The Sounders, currently ranked 11th in the Western Conference, hope to reverse their fortune after previously going 0-2-1 against Nashville.
After enduring three previous matches without a victory against Nashville, the Sounders are focused on changing that trend in front of their home crowd. The team enters the match with a record of 2-3-3 this season. Meanwhile, Nashville sits in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 4-3-1.
Seattle’s manager, Brian Schmetzer, acknowledges the challenge Nashville presents. “Nashville are a good team, and we know it’ll be a challenge,” Schmetzer said. “But we’ve got the home crowd behind us, and we’ll see what we can do.”
The Sounders are coming off a much-needed win against FC Dallas, snapping a four-game winless streak. Danny Musovski’s first-half goal helped secure the 1-0 victory, but Schmetzer noted that room for improvement remains. “Against Dallas, we played well enough to win, but there is still room for improvement, especially in our movement,” he added.
The match will also feature an exciting lineup of players to watch. Hany Mukhtar is Nashville’s leading attacker, having created 27 shot-creating actions this season. Mukhtar has amassed more than 100 goals and assists since joining Nashville in 2020. Sounders’ Kim Kee-hee, who made his season debut last week, will be looking to solidify the defense after stepping up in the absence of Jackson Ragen.
Nashville, meanwhile, comes into this clash aiming to capitalize on their statistics, ranking fourth in MLS with a +4.7 expected goal differential. Despite generating numerous chances, the team has struggled with finishing, having only scored 12 goals this season.
“Any time you go to Seattle, you’re in for a battle,” Nashville goalkeeper Joe Willis told reporters. He emphasized the need for intensity, stating, “We need to be resilient and play for the full 90 minutes.” Willis and his teammates are eager to continue their positive momentum after a recent win over Real Salt Lake.
Saturday’s encounter is set to be an engaging event, not just for the players on the pitch but for Sounders fans as well. A youth match will precede the game, offering activities for families in the stadium.
In previous meetings, Nashville boasts an unblemished record against the Sounders, including a scoreless draw from their last matchup in September 2023. The Sounders will look to alter the narrative and earn their first victory in this series.
With high stakes and both teams eager for victory, the atmosphere at Lumen Field promises to be electric. Fans can catch the action live on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, or tune in on 93.3 KJR FM or El Rey 1360 AM.
