Spider-Man: Brand New Day Filming Begins This Summer

LAS VEGAS, March 31, 2025 — Director Destin Daniel Cretton announced that filming for the latest Spider-Man film, titled “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” will begin this summer. The announcement was made during CinemaCon, the annual convention for movie theater owners.
Although Tom Holland was unable to attend the event, he sent a video message from a remote filming location for another project, teasing details about the new superhero installment. “I am so sorry I can’t be with you. I am halfway around the world shooting a movie,” Holland shared. “I know we left you with a massive cliffhanger at the end of ‘No Way Home,’ so ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is a fresh start. It is exactly that. That’s all I can say.”
Holland’s reputation for accidentally revealing spoilers is well-known, making his restraint in this instance noteworthy. “That’s all I’ve been allowed to say,” he reassured fans. “And I’m well over the hump of giving away spoilers, so don’t be worried. I’m not going to do that today.”
The previous entry, 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” concluded with Peter Parker erasing his identity from the world after breaking open the multiverse. The fourth film is set to be released in theaters on July 31, 2026, but plot details remain under wraps as the creative team continues to develop the story.
“I’m spending my time exploring the next stage of this amazing character with a team of the most incredible artists in the world,” Cretton said. “We’re all just daily nerding out over the suit, how to swing, how to create an event, an emotional story, and a ride that we haven’t really seen before.”
Holland is expected to be joined by returning cast members Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, who portray Peter Parker’s friends MJ and Ned, respectively. Sadie Sink has recently joined the cast, with speculation suggesting she may take on the role of Jean Grey from the X-Men franchise, though no official confirmation has been made.
Cretton remained tight-lipped regarding additional casting but expressed excitement about the collaborative efforts of his team. “I really wish I could introduce you to our entire team who are working their butts off for this. They are incredible, and you will see their amazing work when ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ hits your theaters,” he said.
The anticipation for Holland’s return as Spider-Man is palpable among theater owners, especially considering the franchise’s commercial success. The earlier films contributed significantly to box office revenue: “Spider-Man: Homecoming” grossed $880 million in 2017, “Spider-Man: Far From Home” earned $1.13 billion in 2019, and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” became a cultural phenomenon that grossed $1.9 billion globally in 2021.
<p“As always, I would never pass up the opportunity to say a massive ‘thank you’ for all the support for all of our ‘Spider-Man’ movies,” Holland concluded in his video message.
This film marks Holland’s first appearance as Spidey since “No Way Home,” where he shared the screen with former Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Additionally, “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,” the next chapter in the animated Spider-Verse series, is scheduled for release on June 4, 2027.
