SSI Payments Adjusted Due to June Calendar Changes

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will not receive their payments in June due to calendar scheduling, but they will not miss out on benefits. This is a result of how the payment dates fall this month.
According to the Social Security Administration (SSA), about 8 million people rely on SSI, which is designed for those who are disabled or have limited resources. A significant portion of SSI recipients also receive Social Security payments, which are usually distributed on Wednesdays. The specific pay dates depend on the beneficiary’s birthday. For those born between the 1st and 10th, payments are issued on the second Wednesday of the month, which is June 11. The third Wednesday (June 18) is for those born between the 11th and 20th, while the fourth Wednesday (June 25) is designated for those with birthdays after the 20th.
SSI payments generally go out on the 1st of each month. This month, however, since June 1 falls on a weekend, the payment was issued early on May 30. As a result, SSI recipients will receive two payments in May but not one in June.
Similar calendar issues will arise later in the year. In September, payments will be issued early on August 29 due to Labor Day falling on September 1. Likewise, beneficiaries will get their November payments early on October 31 since November 1 is a Saturday. Thus, recipients will see two checks in October but none in November.
Supplemental Security Income assists individuals with limited income, those aged 65 and older, and people who are blind or disabled. Children who meet disability criteria can also access SSI benefits. Individuals earning more than $2,000 monthly typically do not qualify for this assistance.
