Pittsburgh Steelers Robert Woods Signing Deal

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania — The Pittsburgh Steelers have bolstered their offensive lineup by signing veteran wide receiver Robert Woods to a one-year contract on Thursday. Reportedly worth $2 million, this move adds significant experience and skill to the team ahead of the 2025 NFL season.

Woods, who is 33 years old and has a storied 12-year NFL career, previously played for the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Rams, Tennessee Titans, and most recently, the Houston Texans. He has recorded 683 receptions, 8,233 receiving yards, and 38 touchdowns over 171 games.

Last season, Woods faced challenges with the Texans, finishing with career-low statistics including just 20 catches for 203 yards. However, he demonstrated his potential by converting 15 of 20 targets for 151 yards in crucial situations.

“I’m just excited to be part of this team and contribute in any way I can,” Woods stated after the signing. His approach aligns with the Steelers’ work ethic, adding depth and versatility to the team’s offense.

Woods joins a young receiving group that includes DK Metcalf and George Pickens, who are known for their big-play capabilities. The Steelers have also added Calvin Austin Jr., Roman Wilson, and Scotty Miller to their roster, indicating a mix of experience and youth.

One of Woods’ key strengths is his blocking ability, often overlooked but essential for a team focused on a power-run scheme. His past performances, especially with the Rams, showcased his potential to aid in both the passing and running game.

Woods’ signing does not impact the Steelers’ compensatory pick formula for the upcoming season, providing them with future roster flexibility. Offensive coordinator Arthur Smith is expected to utilize Woods in various roles, including crucial third-down situations.

Overall, integrating Robert Woods into the Steelers’ roster not only enhances their tactical options but also brings much-needed leadership and reliability as they prepare to chase success in the upcoming season.
