Pittsburgh Steelers Robert Woods Signing

Pittsburgh, PA — The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed veteran wide receiver Robert Woods to a one-year deal worth $2 million, the team announced Monday, following the NFL draft.

Woods, 33, brings experience and leadership to a young receiving corps that did not add any new wide receivers during the draft. The signing was reported by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, who noted Woods will serve as a significant locker room presence for the team’s quarterback situation.

Last season, Woods played 15 games with the Houston Texans, where he made four starts and caught 20 passes for 203 yards. He also contributed on special teams, returning kicks and punts with averages of 9.6 yards per punt and 28.8 yards per return, although the latter was based on only five attempts.

Known for his blocking ability and team-first attitude, Woods has not reached 1,000 receiving yards in a season since 2019. Despite this, the Steelers expect him to play a situational role, helping to mentor younger talents like George Pickens and Calvin Austin III.

Woods was a second-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in 2013 and has recorded 683 receptions for over 8,200 yards and 38 touchdowns throughout his career. His standout season came in 2018 with the Los Angeles Rams, reaching 1,219 receiving yards.

As the Steelers prepare for training camp in July, Woods will be in competition for a spot on the final 53-man roster. He joins a wide receiver lineup that includes DK Metcalf, George Pickens, and Roman Wilson, among others. The Steelers recently cleared roster space by releasing defensive tackle Montravius Adams and safety Ryan Watts, the latter of whom is medically retiring due to a neck injury.
